Secure Your Coding Practices With Wattlecorp’s Secure Tea Talk Series #2

Wattlecorp Cybersecurity Lab is conducting Series #2 of their successful Secure Tea Talk series, an innovative workshop led by Wattlecorp cybersecurity experts on developing good cybersecurity practices. The Secure Tea Talk Series #2 workshop will be hosted in Dubai on 4th February 2025 with an even more interesting topic: Secure Coding Practices.

Against the backdrop of the good turnout and success of Secure Tea Talk Series #1, the Wattlecorp team has decided to continue the webinar series to promote good coding practices.

As a leading cybersecurity strategic consultant, Wattlecorp is committed to helping organizations mitigate risk, maintain compliance, and enhance their security posture. It is due to the part of this effort that Wattlecorp has decided to continue the Tea Talk webinar by hosting Secure Tea Talk Series #2 to provide expert guidance on enhancing security and to invoke awareness on the necessity of good coding practices.

Don’t miss out: The Secure Tea Talk Series #2 event is happening!

The Secure Tea Talk series was started to help anyone from a business owner to a security enthusiast or developer to enhance their security game against the rising cybersecurity threat. Secure Tea Talk series #1 was the first-ever series Tea Talk hosted by Wattlecorp in Sahya Cyberpark, Kozhikode, on 26 September 2024, based on the topic: Unleashing Secure Coding Practices, intended to boost security and spread awareness of the importance of good coding practices. The major agenda of the Secure Tea Talk series #1 was to help the participants learn how to fortify their digital defenses and provide a deeper insight into secure coding practices.

The webinar was hosted by Wattlecorp cybersecurity experts:

  • Ammar Bin Vahab: a skilled penetration testing professional with over 3 years of experience in the cybersecurity domain who is currently ranked as a ProHacker on the Hack The Box CTF platform, he consistently delivers impactful solutions and assessments.
  • Muhammad Midhlaj: Wattlecorp’s dedicated penetration tester with over 3 years of experience in the offensive security domain
  • Danwand NS: seasoned penetration tester, MLSecOps engineer with over 5 years of experience in the security domain.

Secure Tea Talk series #1 served as a valuable workshop for participants from all backgrounds, from professionals to anyone with major cybersecurity concerns seeking to improve the security of their application. It offered significant insights on how to avoid vulnerabilities like hidden backdoors or any form of broken authentication by secure coding practices.

From Seasoned Developers to Business Owners: Why Secure Coding Practice Matters?

Secure coding, which is the premise of the Secure Tea Talk series, in itself is the practice of developing software by applying the best techniques and tools to ensure the software is resistant to security vulnerabilities, resulting in faster and more confident product releases. Secure coding practices not only mitigate the risk of cybersecurity threats but also spare organizations from the cost of reputational damage and post-release security issues.

The consequences of insecure coding are far-fetched, like unauthorized access and data breaches resulting in financial losses and even extending to legal liabilities. Developers play a key role in ensuring the security of software or applications against vulnerabilities primarily caused by bugs, logic flaws, and defects. Insecure coding practices can be exploited by cybersecurity offenders to break into the system and can lead to attacks like SQL injection.

Secure coding practices like input validation, output encoding, authentication, and password storage; error handling and logging; and privilege management can help safeguard software against the accidental introduction of vulnerabilities. Hence, enforcing secure coding practices across all development teams can vehemently improve the security posture.

Benefits of Attending Secure Tea Talk Webinar

As it is much less expensive to build secure software or an application than to pay the price for security issues once the application is developed, the Secure Tea Talk Series event is tailor-made to provide expert guidance on developing a vulnerability-resistant application. Attending Secure Tea Talk Series #2 offers numerous advantages, including gaining a far better insight on practical approaches to developing software or applications resistant to security vulnerabilities and getting expert guidance on how to conduct good coding practices across all departments from Wattlecorp’s experienced cybersecurity professionals.

One of the major advantages of the Secure Tea Talk Series is its inclusivity; for whoever is looking to enhance their coding practices or is simply fascinated to learn about the new cybersecurity trends, this webinar offers a valuable experience by catering to all levels of expertise.

For people who are heavily investing in developing software, this series helps to shed light on how one can save and prevent post-release fixes by implementing secure coding practices. There are many ways to learn about secure coding practices. The Secure Tea Talk Series provides a tailored approach with face-to-face interaction where all participant queries will be answered and will be provided with pragmatic solutions.

As the webinar brings together security enthusiasts, professionals, developers, and business owners in a face-to-face interaction, this offers a brilliant opportunity to connect with like-minded people and industry experts. A better way to network, advance business, or get a new gig, all the while gaining valuable insights on secure coding practices.

Seize the opportunity: The Secure Tea Talk Series #2 event is happening soon!

Cybersecurity Challenges in the Digital Era

From businesses to personal accounts, cybersecurity threats spare no one. With emerging digital platforms, hackers find innovative ways to breach any system resulting in an alarming increase in cyber crimes, with excessive losses for businesses and government organizations.

Some of the prominent cybercrimes reported in the past years are as follows:

  • Malware attacks: These are a very common form of cyberattack. Here, some malicious software that causes harm to the system is introduced to the system to conduct unauthorized activities.
  • Phishing attacks: These are also known as scams. A hacker tricks a particular individual into revealing their sensitive data by posing himself as a trustworthy entity.
  • Password attacks: In this, the attacker tries to break the credentials by guesswork or stealing the password to get unauthorized access to a system.
  • Man-in-the-middle attack: This is a form of cyber attack where an attacker eavesdrops on communication between two parties to steal or alter information.
  • SQL injection attack: It takes advantage of a vulnerability in a database-driven application. The attacker modifies the web application database by injecting malicious SQL code.
  • Denial-of-service attack: Here, the system or network is crowded by false service requests to form excessive traffic such that the network becomes unavailable to the desired users.
  • Insider threat: This threat is developed by a trusted individual of an organization, who exploits their access to harm an organization’s system or data
  • Cryptojacking: This is an online threat where one party’s computer is accessed without authorization by a criminal to mine cryptocurrency without their knowledge.
  • Zero-day exploit: Here the attacker takes advantage of a zero-day vulnerability, which is an unknown error in code or software that has not yet been detected. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to commit cybercrime.
  • Watering Hole Attack: This is a targeted cyberattack where attackers target specific groups, keeping records of the websites they regularly visit and infecting these websites to compromise their system.

With advanced tools and improved digital presence, cybercriminals wiggle their way into a secure system causing heavy repercussions. This is where good coding practices become effective. From developers to business owners, the Secure Tea Talk Series #2 will provide a good overview of how to develop secure coding practices.
